My number 1 best DIY skincare gift basket idea

Since the holidays are approaching, I thought it was the perfect time to post one of my best DIY gift ideas. Even if you've already picked up something, you may want to supplement it with something you've made yourself. This DIY beauty gift basket is fab for birthdays, other special occasions, or for someone who needs a pick-me-up right now.

I used to be the Queen of the DIY gift. I'm also the Queen of last-minute gift shopping, but that's another story! Time became an issue for creating gifts, and I started buying them again. But I'm back to carving out some time to make things again because they're so personal, and buying gifts is getting more costly.

Important note: It's best to leave skincare in the hands of experts, but if it's not in your budget, it's a nice way to give someone something that's already been tried and developed.

Homemade skincare beauty gift basket

This DIY skincare gift basket is all-natural, quick, and easy to make! The basket includes:

Material

  • 1 small to medium-sized gift basket or eco-friendly box
  • Ribbon
  • Tissue paper
  • Biodegradable cellophane paper from Etsy (If you're using a gift basket and don't have any on hand, I never do!)
  • 4 x 250ml clear jars
  • 4 labels for the jars: You can cut a sheet of white paper or paper in any shade into four squares that fit the size of your jars
  • A marker to write on the labels

Ingredients

Bath oil: 250ml coconut milk, 4 tablespoons of almond oil, and eight sprigs of fresh mint, blended until smooth.

Instructions to put on the label: Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of the mixture to your bath water before getting in.

Face and body exfoliate

If you know their skin type, choose the right one from the lists below. If you don't, go with either the anti-aging one or the one for normal skin.

  • For acne: Mix 1/2 cup of plain yogurt with 1/4 cup of mashed strawberries, 1/4 cup of almond meal, and 1 teaspoon or less of raw apple cider vinegar.
  • For anti-aging or dry skin: Mix 5 teaspoons of ground almonds with 2 tablespoons of grapeseed oil, 1 teaspoon of warmed honey, and 2 drops of rosehip oil.
  • For normal skin: Mix 1/3 cup each of brown sugar, oil that doesn't clog pores (e.g., sunflower, grapeseed, rosehip, or jojoba), and raw honey.
  • For oily or combination skin: Blend or grind 1/2 cup of uncooked rolled oats into a fine powder, then mix the powder with 4 tablespoons of raw honey and 4 tablespoons of jojoba oil or another oil that doesn't clog pores, such as sunflower, grapeseed, or rosehip.
  • For sensitive skin: Mix 2 teaspoons of raw honey with 1 teaspoon of aloe vera, then apply all over your face and neck, or your body.

Instructions to put on the label: For the face: Apply to clean, dry skin and leave it on for 10-20 minutes before rinsing. For the body: Apply a quarter-sized amount to a loofah or sponge and gently massage it into your skin. Rinse it off with lukewarm water.

Face mask

If you know their skin type, choose the right one from the lists below. If you don't, go with either the anti-aging one or the one for normal skin.

  • For acne or discolouration: Make a lemon and honey mask. Cut 10 lemons in half, squeeze the juice, and add 10 teaspoons of honey.
  • For oily skin: Blend 3 fully ripe bananas, 3 tablespoons of honey and juice from 3 oranges or lemons.
  • For dry skin and anti-aging: Blend 3 ripe avocados, 6 tablespoons of honey and 3 teaspoons of coconut oil.
  • For combination skin: Blend 3 ripe bananas, 3 tablespoons of raw honey and 3 tablespoons of oatmeal.
  • For normal skin: Blend 3 apples and 6 tablespoons of honey.

Instructions to put on the label: Apply a quarter-sized amount to your face and neck, gently massaging it into your skin. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes, and then rinse it off.

Hair mask

Olive oil and coconut oil for double hydration! Mix 1/4 cup olive oil with 1 tablespoon coconut oil.

Instructions to put on the label: Apply as much as you need to your hair, from the top root to the tip, and leave on for 20 minutes to overnight. Wash it out with lukewarm water. Heat the mixture on medium heat until warm (not hot) for best results.

Instructions for the basket

  • Add names and instructions to the labels.
  • Add the labels to the jars.
  • Make your products.
  • Fill the jars.
  • Decorate the inside of the basket with tissue paper and place your jars inside.
  • Wrap it with cellophane and tie a ribbon around the basket.
